Shot peening is a cold mechanical process or technique to improve the fatigue strength of substance by air blasting with small spherical balls. Small dimples are formed on the surface of the peening part by the striking of tiny spherical balls.

Thus it produces a layer of high magnitude compressive residual stress. This phenomenon creates compressive stress under the top surface of the substance and relives tensile stress. The tests have resulted in an increase of fatigue life of the job. The system automation of machine used plays a vital role to achieve the repeatability and accuracy in shot peening technology.
