Shot Peening M/c for Cylinder Blocks

Shot Peening M/c for Cylinder Blocks

Shot peening works as a cold mechanical impact treatment accomplished by striking a ductile metallic surface with multiple high-velocity shots. In shot peening, small spherical shot bombards the surface of the part to be finished. The shot acts like a peen hammer, dimpling the surface and causing compression stresses under the dimple. As the media continues to strike the part, it forms multiple overlapping dimples throughout the metal surface being treated.

Stress peening is a special way of shot peening which is done under tensile stress. After unloading a higher amount of compressive residual stress is reached. Normally it is done at components with high tensile strength (Rm > 1,500 MPa) and out of steel.
